Disney India Launch on 3rd April in India With New Subscription Plan
Disney+ was earlier set to launch in India on 29th March, along with the IPL’s (India Premier League) new season via Hotstar. However, the company decided to delay its streaming service launch due to the IPL season being postponed because of the pandemic COVID-19. However, the company didn’t reveal the new date for the launch, but today confirmed that Disney Plus will make its debut in India on 3rd April 2020.
If you aren’t aware of this news, Disney+ will launch via Hotstar in India, which is India’s one of the most popular streaming services in the country right now. But in line with the launch, Hotstar will be rebranded to Disney+ Hotstar later this week with the latest update.
As you all know, the Disney+ Hotstar launch was delayed due to the sudden stop on IPL’s 2020 new season. It might be the company’s new strategy amidst the COVID-19 outbreak, said Uday Shankar, President of The Walt Disney Company and chairman, Star and Disney India. Disney+ Hotstar will stand with a refreshed app and website design, along with the rebranded name of the Hotstar app to Disney+ Hotstar, as we saw earlier this month with beta testing of the application. This new streaming service will launch with new and more expensive subscription plans in India.
Disney+ Hotstar New Subscription Plans
If you are an existing user of Hotstar services, you know that Hotstar lets you choose between two streaming plans. Hotstar VIP (₹ 365) and Premium (₹ 999). Disney+ Hotstar is going to continue with the same plan but with increased subscription prices.
First of all, those users who have existing Hotstar VIP or Premium plans won’t have to pay extra charges till the end of their subscription plans. However, new subscribers will now have to pay that additional amount for the services.

- For Disney+ Hotstar VIP charges will be Rs. 399
- Disney+ Hotstar Premium charges will be Rs. 1,499
As for the difference between both the old and the new subscription plans, subscribers of Disney+ Hotstar VIP will get access to the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe Library. And, you’ll also get access to live sports, Hotstar Originals, and the latest Bollywood movies.
On the other hand, Disney+ Hotstar Premium subscribers will need to opt for if you want to watch Disney+ originals, including The Tramp, High School Musical, and, most importantly, The Mandalorian. Along with the latest American shows from studios itself, such as Showtime, HBO, and FOX. And, you will get all of the VIP subscription content as well.
