Hotstar 400 Million Downloads

Hotstar, the leading online streaming platform in India, has published its annual report, which states 400 Million downloads. The company registers two times growth in installs this year as compared to 2018. Moreover,  the platform’s reach crosses 300 million and 25 million live simultaneous viewers during this year’s ICC World Cup Semifinal between India and New Zealand.

Hotstar says that 63 percent of the total online entertainment consumption came from non-metros. Namely Lucknow, Pune, and Patna, which have surpassed cities like Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Kolkata.

The company said it even recorded 3X growth as compared to the previous year. “The accelerated increase in the Indian Video Entertainment had an unparalleled impact on the consumer,” said Varun Narang (Executive VP and Chief Product Officer.

It’s not just the women watching the family drama. However, more than 40 percent of views of family drama is coming from men. Hotstar even claims 45 percent of views came from women, which was 3.2X growth as compared to the year 2018.

Well, it looks like the Game of Thrones (GOT) audience loves Hindi family dramas as well. Besides, 41 percent of them viewed both. Bigg Boss Tamil is the highest watched entertainment show, beating all the Hindi TV Shows – Hotstar report.

Indian Video streaming giant also claims its Watch N Play, reported participation of 64 million viewers in the IPL 2019. The Watch N Play numbers were two times as compared to 2018’s participants. An Approx of 6 billion emojis was sent/ received during IPL 2019 with a record-breaking 44 million comments live. With all these record Hotstar download numbers, Hotstar claiming to get a download of 400 million will be valid.
